We have a rule: no riding dirtbikes or 4-wheelers on the sabbath. Trenton and Cael were outside playing on a Sunday and I went outside to check on them. Trenton asked if he could harrow the garden and I said yes. Cael really wanted to get on with him. So I said yes but to make sure and drive slowly. He was doing a great job but then the chain to the harrow got caught in one of the tires. SO, Trenton jumped off and was in the process of unhooking it. Cael was still sitting on the 4-wheeler. Trenton had left the 4-wheeler running and in reverse. Cael hit the gas button throwing him off into the dirt and Trenton was getting mangled up behind it. I was only a few yards away watching the whole thing. It was a total nightmare seeing Trent behind it. He jumped up and started running around when my neighbor noticed and came running over and saw his leg and said it was bad. I started screaming and panicking. I handed Cael to her and ran for the house to get Jared. In the meantime Trenton had hobbled up to the house. He had a huge chunk of flesh hanging off of his leg. I am not good with those kinds of things, especially when it is one of my one kids. We decided he needed to go the the hospital so we headed to Meridian. Cael was fine just shaken up a bit. My great friend Emilee rushed over to take care of the other kids.
I was so impressed out how Trenton handled himself throughout the whole experience. He was so calm. He layed on the bed at the hospital and let numerous nurses check out his leg. They put some numbing gel on it first and then he had to have atleast 30 shots right in the joint of his knee. The doctor then came in and was ready to do stitches. Jared and I didn't think there was enough skin to repair it. Trent hadn't really seen how bad it was but just as the doc was getting ready to stich he looked back and then suddenly put his head in his hands. He told me, "Mom I almost puked, that was gross."
He was extremely lucky. He could have hit his head or stomach or anything else. He didn't tear any tendons or hit any major arteries. I feel very blessed that it turned out the way it did.
